Quote's cave is redrawn in Cave Story+, the enhanced edition Nicalis published of Daisuke Amaya's freeware. Extra modes and new art sit on top of the robot's descent, and motion-console, dual-screen, and glasses-free handheld releases carried that version.
Curly Brace, Balrog, and the island's doctor remain in the story Amaya, as Pixel, had given away. The freeware original came first; this plus edition is the commercial redraw, not a sequel with a new island.
Players who never met the doctor still get the same ending questions. They simply see them in the redrawn sprites and the added modes.
