History

Ion Storm shipped John Romero's Daikatana to PCs in 2000 after years of hype, and it became a notorious critical failure. The blade in the title is supposed to carry a fighter across separate eras, with companions trailing behind.

Kemco's Nintendo 64 port followed and was received even more harshly. Players who had already rejected the computer release found the cartridge's cramped rooms and slower fights harder to excuse.

The advance talk had promised a revolutionary sword. What arrived, on the computer and on the cartridge, was a shooter people cited when they warned about unfinished design.
