Memories are stored in a machine, and Master Reboot is Wales Interactive's first-person horror about walking through that archive. A childhood room inside the Soul Cloud repeats with corruption, which is how a damaged memory looks.
The Soul Cloud holds the dead's recorded lives, and something in the system is wrong enough to hunt the visitor. Rooms shift from a childhood scene into a corrupted repeat, which is how the facility shows a damaged file.
Walking the Soul Cloud also shipped on the successor console in 2013 with the corrupted childhood room intact. Progress means opening the next memory, not winning a gunfight against the corruption.
