A drifter hops tiny planets to rebuild a damaged ship, and Xeodrifter is Renegade Kid's pocket search across those small maps. The phase shift walks through a wall the first landing's gun could only dent.
A gun upgrade and a phase shift open caves that the first landing could not reach. Each world is only a few screens wide, so the Metroid-style loop is compressed into a short session.
