History

Rare's Battletoads in Battlemaniacs keeps the series' sudden difficulty spikes on the Super Nintendo. Rash and Zitz still smash through a stage that changes shape mid-level, and this 1994 episode stands apart from the NES original and from the Double Dragon crossover.

A hover-bike rush sits beside a climb that ends on one mistimed jump. Two players can take the pair, yet a single missed cue in the speeder section stops the attempt cold.

The NES and Game Boy Battletoads maps use different corridors and different jokes. Battlemaniacs builds its own run of one-hit traps for the 16-bit machine.
