History

Michael Berlyn's bobcat became Accolade's heavily promoted mascot in Bubsy, fully titled Claws Encounters of the Furred Kind. The 1993 Super Nintendo and Genesis versions sell speed: long drops, yarn, and a mouth that will not stop talking.

Later, the same mascot was widely mocked, which is part of the cartridge's history as much as the promotion. Extra lives scatter through levels that punish a mistimed leap off a high branch.

The furred-kind subtitle is the full name on the box. Speed, the bobcat's patter, and that rise-and-fall reputation belong to this first encounter, not to a later sequel's excuses.
