Angel sent the Sailor Soldiers through side-scrolling fights in Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon (1993) already. Sailor Moon, Mars, Mercury, and the rest of the class are selectable, and the stages follow the anime's early monsters rather than a one-on-one bracket.
A later R follow-up added a versus mode this first cart lacks. The original is a brawler: health bars, a special attack, and a path from the street to a boss youma.
The Super Famicom release is that cooperative-feeling lineup of soldiers, even when one player holds the pad. The missing one-on-one mode is what the R cartridge later supplied.
