Pookas and Fygars swell underground in DIG DUG, Namco's arcade maze where the miner tunnels, inflates enemies, and drops rocks. Horizontal and vertical digging builds the paths, a crushed rock outscores a simple pump, and the 1982 cabinet is the design behind a Nintendo 3DS listing dated 2008 for this handheld row.
Taizo Hori's pump is the weapon. Later Namco stories borrowed that miner, while this game is the original dirt maze.
Timing the rock is the skill veterans chase. The enemies' eyes are the tell before they turn toward the tunnel.
Same series is the tight name match. Same franchise is the wider family. Same platform is other games on the systems named above.
