A tractor beam yanks the ship upward in Galaga, Namco's arcade shooter that followed Galaxian and made capture its signature. Rescuing the captured fighter creates a double ship, bonus waves send insects in formation, and the 1981 cabinet is the design, while this Nintendo 3DS listing is dated 2006 for this handheld row.
Diving aliens break from the grid to attack. Letting a ship be taken, then freeing it, is the expert's risk.
Galaxian had the formation without that capture trick. The beam is why this sequel is the one players still imitate.
