Midway built Doom 64 as an original campaign, not a straight port of the computer episodes. New maps replace the familiar knee-deep stations, and a more ambient score sets the mood apart from the Super Nintendo DOOM cartridge.
The 1997 Nintendo 64 release still uses a shotgun, a chaingun, and demons in brown corridors, but the layout is its own. Colored keys and switch hunts follow a new route, with a Mother Demon waiting past the last gate.
Players who wanted the old episode select do not find it here. The ambient music and the new maps are the reasons this campaign stands beside, rather than inside, the earlier DOOM releases.
Same series is the tight name match. Same franchise is the wider family. Same platform is other games on the systems named above.
