Volition left the destructible Mars tunnels behind for Red Faction II, a more linear 2002 campaign built around squad chatter. Alias fights through a city under a dictator, and the Geo-Mod caves of the first game are no longer the main trick.
Squadmates call targets while the route pushes forward, so the pace is closer to a scripted shooter than to a miner carving his own door. The Nano weapons and the urban siege replace Parker's Martian rebellion.
The cube disc is that linear sequel. Players who came for collapsing tunnels find a tighter war story and a squad that will not stop talking.
