History

Activision reworked the Atari name into tank combat plus base building in Battlezone (1998) already. Satellites are captured, factories are dropped, and a tank the player built rolls out to hold the moon or a scrap of Mars.

The Nintendo 64 release is a later, less famous port of that remake. The computer game is where the builder-and-tank idea was fully at home, with a mouse on the construction menu.

It is not the 1980 vector cabinet, which had no base to build. Factories, the satellite grid, and the constructed tank are the remake's rules, and the cartridge is the quieter echo.
