HAL Laboratory built F-1 Race for Nintendo's Famicom, and it was among the first games to use the console's expansion port for a steering wheel. That wheel turns a simple rear-view race into a hands-on demo of the port, in a release from 1984.
Opposing cars block the lanes, and the wheel's rotation steers more directly than a pad's left and right. The port on the bottom of the Famicom is what made the accessory possible.
A Game Boy edition later carried a similar race to a handheld without the wheel. The Famicom original is the one tied to that expansion-port steering wheel.
