EA Sports branded NHL 98 a year ahead of its window, and a late Super Nintendo edition sits beside the 32-bit games. It belongs to EA's NHL line, not to Nintendo's Ice Hockey, so the teams, the season, and the presentation follow the annual rather than a simple pond match.
The cover's 98 is the branding, while the release window itself is 1997 already. Checking, shooting, and a season mode are the hockey, even on hardware that was leaving the spotlight.
Nintendo's own Ice Hockey is a different, older cartridge. This annual is the EA one, arriving late on the Super Nintendo while newer machines carried the same year's branding.
Same series is the tight name match. Same franchise is the wider family. Same platform is other games on the systems named above.
None in this catalog yet.
No wider family is grouped for this title beyond the series list.
