The Strogg wage an industrial war in id Software's Quake II, on an alien world invaded in 1997 already. A marine is dropped into that campaign, and the levels connect as one push instead of isolated episodes.
Strogg facilities, a prison block, and a great gun on the horizon structure the march. Metal corridors and harsher lighting replaced the first game's gothic stone.
The Nintendo 64 release is a later port, with its own compromises in lighting and geometry. Those cuts change how a hallway reads, even when the Strogg and the mission order stay recognizable.
