History

Isometric zoning and a newspaper of disasters define SimCity 2000, Maxis's follow-up to its city builder. Underground pipes and subways sit on a layer beneath the streets, and the paper reports the fires and the crashes the mayor failed to prevent.

Will Wright's studio switched the view off the plain top-down map. Arcologies and the underground view give the mayor a vertical problem the first game did not draw.

The computer original arrived in 1993, and a Super Nintendo port followed that PC design. Isometric blocks and the newspaper of disasters came along in the console version.
