Treasure fired a rail shooter down a ruined future in Sin and Punishment - Successor of the Earth. Saki's sword and a gun sight share the same stick, and the Nintendo 64 game was published in Japan in 2000 already.
Western players got an official English release later, including a 2007 Virtual Console edition. Until that translation, the rail, the sword, and the Earth-successor story were much harder to read.
The sight-and-sword combination is Treasure's idea of a shooter. The Japanese cartridge and the later English Virtual Console are the two official ways that idea left the studio.
