History
Webs replace stairs in Spider-Man (2001), one of the action games from the wave of Spider-Man titles just before the 2002 film. Marvel's wall-crawler swings, punches, and sticks to brick while a city of familiar enemies waits below.
Doctor Octopus, street thugs, and a skyline of fire escapes give the swing a reason to exist. A camera that follows the web line is what the larger versions of that wave were built around, and the mask's quips keep the fights from feeling like a silent beat-em-up.
A movie in 2002 would soon fix one actor's face to the mask. This earlier outing still belongs to the comics wave that came just before that film, with the web as the way across town.
