Cobi's Journey and Tara's Adventure are the two United States releases of Dragon Warrior Monsters 2, both built by Tose for Enix. Breeding is the daily work: pair two monsters and the child keeps a mix of their skills. In 2001 the adventure moved from island to island, and the boat between shores is how new families enter the matching pool.
A handsome monster with an empty move list still loses, so a pairing is judged by what the offspring can actually do. The two cartridges are not one plot with the cover art swapped; each lead meets the chain of islands from another side. Tose spends the hours on feeding, scouting, and combining rather than on a single dungeon march.
Enix kept the American boxes in the Dragon Warrior line while the raising did the talking. Skip an island and you may miss a family the team has never produced. The next battle is the audit of whatever traits you chose to pass down.
The earlier breeding quest in this series woke inside a monster kingdom and stayed there. These stories leave that kingdom for open water and two separate leads. The goal is still a child stronger than either parent, only now the horizon is a shoreline.
Same series is the tight name match. Same franchise is the wider family. Same platform is other games on the systems named above.
The series list above is the whole family set in this catalog.
