Square Enix opened the Luminary's journey in Japan on DRAGON QUEST XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age. The 2017 mainline RPG launched there on 3DS beside PlayStation 4.
Erdrea's party still recruits companions, equips skills on a panel grid, and rides across a continent-sized map. The Japanese 3DS edition shares that launch window with the PlayStation 4 version rather than waiting for a later western handheld.
Pep powers, the forge, and the Luminary's mark are the new-quest pieces. This is the Japanese twin launch, 3DS beside PlayStation 4, not a western-only port.
