Spies-versus-mercenaries multiplayer first appears in Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow, Ubisoft's sequel from 2004 that still sends Sam Fisher through fresh cities. GameCube has that game, and Game Boy Advance has a flat side story starring the same spy.
Sam Fisher still hugs shadows while a new terrorist plot moves him through fresh cities. The online mode pits stealth operatives against armed mercenaries, a match the first game did not ship.
The side-story cartridge keeps Fisher in flat corridors. Anyone hunting the mercenary multiplayer wants the console edition, where those two sides actually meet.
Same series is the tight name match. Same franchise is the wider family. Same platform is other games on the systems named above.

No wider family is grouped for this title beyond the series list.
