History

Silicon & Synapse, later Blizzard, switched players among Erik, Baleog, and Olaf in The Lost Vikings, published by Interplay. Erik's jump and headbutt, Baleog's arrow, and Olaf's shield solve different doors in the same room.

The 1993 puzzles are unwinnable with the wrong Viking in the lead. A pit that eats Erik may be a safe drop for Olaf's shield, and a target only Baleog can shoot sits over a switch.

Tomators and alien machinery kidnap the trio out of a Viking village. The tool split, not a shared sword swing, is the reason the three have to travel as a set.
