History

Lara Croft's pistols meet a cursed blade in Tomb Raider: Curse of the Sword, the 2001 handheld adventure Core Design made and Activision published. It is a sequel to the earlier handheld Tomb Raider, still a side-view trek rather than the 3D tombs of the home console games.

Levers, ledges, and a weapon that is also a problem push Lara through ruins and streets. The sword of the title is the story's complication, not a simple damage upgrade, and the small screen keeps the climbing readable.

Core had already defined Lara on PlayStation and Saturn. This cart continues the pocket line those studios' handheld sequel started, with the curse as the new reason to raid.
