Asterix and Obelix defend a potion-fueled Gaulish village against Rome in Asterix & Obelix. The Super Nintendo and Game Boy games from 1995 are tie-ins to that French bande dessinée, not to an American cartoon.
Menhirs, Roman camps, and a wild-boar chase supply the obstacles, and Obelix shoulders tasks Asterix handles with speed. Getafix's cauldron is why the small village holds off the legions in the albums these carts adapt.
Goscinny and Uderzo's speech balloons are the source of the jokes. Both Nintendo editions draw on that same village fence and the same druid's brew.
Same series is the tight name match. Same franchise is the wider family. Same platform is other games on the systems named above.
