PopCap followed its breakthrough match-three with Bejeweled 2, adding puzzle boards and an endless mode on top of swapping gems. Puzzle mode asks for a specific pattern, while the endless board runs until no swap remains.
A pair of jewels trades places, and a line of three or more clears. Puzzle mode sets a target pattern, while the untimed cascade lets a board run until no move remains.
The 2004 sequel spread far beyond the first browser habit. Later living-room versions still turn on that same swap, not on a story campaign laid over the grid.
