Atari Games rebuilt the four-hero dungeon crawl as a 3D arcade quest in Gauntlet Legends, and the Nintendo 64 version ports that sequel rather than the 1985 cabinet. Warriors, valkyries, wizards, and archers still need food, but the dungeons now recede in perspective.
The late 1990s arcade update adds a campaign of realms instead of one endless floor. Generators still spawn the hordes, and a voice still mocks a fallen hero, now over a 3D hall.
It is not the flat 1985 cabinet with its original four classes and nothing else. Legends, the realms, and the Nintendo 64 port are the sequel's shape, from a 1999 push to bring that hall home.
