History

Demon partners fill the party in Megami Tensei Gaiden: Last Bible, the Game Boy spinoff that opened the Last Bible line. A 1994 monster-collecting role-playing game wearing the Megami Tensei name, it sends a young hero out to recruit the very creatures other games would only have fought.

Talking a demon into joining, then fusing that roster into something stronger, is the loop beneath the turn-based fights. Towns still sell herbs and rumors, but the encyclopedia of monsters is the real equipment list.

Later Last Bible chapters continued the same recruiting. This first one is the spinoff that proved the Megami Tensei habit of negotiation could live on a pocket cartridge.
