History

Hang gliders, gyrocopters, and rocket belts cross photoreal islands in Pilotwings 64, the Nintendo 64 sequel to the Super Nintendo flight school. Paradigm worked with Nintendo, and the game was a launch title, so the islands were a showpiece for the new hardware.

A cannon shot and a skydiving target return as lessons with new aircraft. Cartoon pilots take the tests, and a rocket belt's fuel is the limit on how long a hover can last.

The 1996 launch lessons are this sequel, not a redraw of the Mode 7 biplane. Gyrocopters, the belt, and the photo-based islands are the new syllabus.
