History

Flight lessons, not a combat sortie, structure Pilotwings. Instructors grade a hang glider, a light plane, and a jet pack, and a sloppy landing costs the certificate.

Nintendo shipped it in the SNES launch window of 1990, when Mode 7 could spin a runway under the aircraft. The score is a license test: altitude, rings, and the touchdown all sit on the report card.

Pilotwings 64 later moved the school onto a new console. The SNES lessons stay the first classroom, with the jet pack's short burn and the hang glider's long float as separate exams.
