History

Megavitamin capsules fall into a bottle to clear colored viruses in Dr. Mario, Nintendo's puzzle about matching red, blue, and yellow. A pair of capsule halves has to land so three of a color line up, and the viruses do not move on their own.

The bottle is the well, and the doctor is Mario in a lab coat. Speed rises as the bottle clears, which is the pressure the puzzle adds to a simple match.

Nintendo's NES puzzle arrived in 1990 and started the Dr. Mario line. The viruses and the megavitamins are the first version of that bottle.
