Square's second SaGa game is Final Fantasy Legend II in the West. The Game Boy party still mixes mutant, human, and monster members, and Japan saw the cartridge in 1990.
A mutant eats meat to shift stats, a human buys gear, and a monster transforms by devouring a defeated foe. The group climbs a fresh tower of worlds rather than repeating the first SaGa path exactly.
The Final Fantasy label on the Western box is branding laid over SaGa. This second cartridge is the one with that food-and-form party.
Same series is the tight name match. Same franchise is the wider family. Same platform is other games on the systems named above.
