History

Light Warriors cross a bridge that breaks behind them in Final Fantasy (1987), Hironobu Sakaguchi's Famicom RPG that launched the series. Four crystals, Garland's corrupted knight, and Chaos at the end of time are the quest Square bet the company on.

The party is four named roles rather than one silent wanderer. The crystals of earth, fire, water, and wind are the objectives scattered across the continents.

North America received Nintendo's localization two years later. Sakaguchi's four Light Warriors and Square's Famicom original are the launch of the line.
