Daylight fades into a dangerous night in Castlevania II: Simon's Quest (1987), and the whip's journey becomes a countryside search. Towns sell garlic and clues, and Dracula's scattered remains are the objects Simon Belmont is trying to assemble.
Mansions replace a single straight castle march. A villager's cryptic line is often the only hint toward the next body part or the next hidden stair.
Konami opened the sequel into that day-night map. The towns, the clues, and the cycle of light are the structure, not a corridor of candelabras ending at one throne.
