History

Job tablets let the cast change classes in FINAL FANTASY V, Square's Super Famicom RPG built around that freedom. Bartz and his companions can leave a knight's path for a mage's, and the wind crystal's shattering is what starts the need.

Square released the job system on the Super Famicom in 1992, and Faris, Lenna, and Galuf share one class menu. A pirate and a princess can end up with the same skill if the player insists.

No official English edition existed until long after the Japanese release. The jobs, the crystals, and the Super Famicom original are what players mean when they talk about this chapter rather than a later translation.
