History

Nintendo bundled a mouse with Mario Paint, a 1992 drawing toy for the Super Nintendo. Stamps, animation frames, and a music composer share the cartridge with a fly-swatting minigame.

The composer grids notes the way a tiny piano roll would, and a stamp of Yoshi or a flower can be planted on a canvas. Animation is a flipbook of those drawings, not a side-scrolling level editor.

Gnat Attack, the fly swatter, is the only competitive corner. The mouse, the stamps, and the composer are why the cartridge shipped as a toy rather than as another Mario rescue.
