History

Nintendo remade four Mario cartridges as Super Mario All-Stars (1993), and the result is a compilation rather than a new adventure. Super Mario Bros., the Japanese Lost Levels, Super Mario Bros. 2, and Super Mario Bros. 3 all sit on one Super Nintendo cart with redrawn sprites.

A save file replaces the password habits of the older NES releases. World maps, warp whistles, and Birdo still behave as they did, now in the later console's colors.

Lost Levels, once withheld from North American NES shelves, is the inclusion that surprised players. The compilation does not add a fifth quest; it preserves those four, including the lost one.
