History

Jupiter and Nintendo's Mario's Picross is a Game Boy logic book that fills grids from number clues while Mario hosts. Japan and Europe received this puzzle in 1995, and North America waited on later reissues.

A row clue of three, then one, means three filled cells, a gap, and a single cell, and a mistake spends time. Mario's hammer chips the grid until a mushroom or a star appears.

Later Picross books carried the same clues forward. This first Mario-hosted volume is the Game Boy release Japan and Europe got before a wider reissue.
