Costume themes dress every board in Mario Party 2. Pirate hats on the cast make the cup readable. Pirate, western, space, horror, and mystery layouts put Mario and company in outfits while the same shared controller still passes hand to hand.
Hudson Soft and Nintendo used 1999 to enlarge the minigame list and refine the first Nintendo 64 party. Coins, stars, and Bowser's interruptions remain the economy, but items and the costume sets make each board feel like a different party night.
Four players still crowd one machine. A minigame can hinge on a single stick waggle after twenty minutes of buying stars, which is the rhythm the second board game kept.
Same series is the tight name match. Same franchise is the wider family. Same platform is other games on the systems named above.
