History

Konami armed two soldiers for Contra III: The Alien Wars, known in Japan as Contra Spirits. Mode 7 spins a top-down street while missiles lock on, and the side-view stages still let a second player join the gunfire.

The 1992 Super Nintendo run-and-gun uses bombs, a hold-and-charge shot, and a mid-air swap of weapons. Red Falcon's return is the story excuse for robots, alien hives, and a last climb.

Smart bombs clear a screen the rifles cannot. The Mode 7 street and the two-player crawl are the set pieces players quote when they name this Spirits cartridge.
