History

Bullfrog moved the god game into Greek myth with Populous 2: Trials of the Olympian Gods. Divine effects and a pantheon of rivals replace the first game's more abstract books, and an earthquake or a tidal wave is a named Greek power.

The 1991 computer design lets the player climb a ladder of gods by devastating the opposing believers. Buildings still rise on raised land, but lightning, baptism, and volcanoes are the new interventions.

A Super Nintendo port carries those Olympian trials. The pantheon, not a simple repeat of the first land-raising matches, is the reason this sequel has its own name.
