History

Twin sticks split movement from aim in Robotron: 2084. Grunts pour in from every edge of the room. Eugene Jarvis and Larry DeMar's Williams arcade game, from 1982, asks the player to rescue the last humans while robots flood the room.

Every human saved is a detour from the shot. The grunts, hulks, and brains enter from the edges, and standing still is how a run ends.

The Nintendo 64 library lists the name among its titles. The design people mean is still that arcade twin-stick rescue, not a later 3D cousin with a different subtitle.
