History

Sid Meier's Civilization, from MicroProse in 1991, starts a people in the ancient world and aims them toward space. Settlers found cities, and a technology such as the wheel or gunpowder rewrites what those cities can build.

Wars, wonders, and a palace the player designs sit beside the research path. A rival civilization will arrive with chariots while you are still on bronze if the science slider is ignored.

The Super Nintendo edition is a later port of that computer strategy game. The same march from hut to starship is the goal, squeezed onto a pad.
