Arthur dashes through a harsher monster gauntlet in Capcom's Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts (1991) already. Japan knows the same quest as Chou Makaimura, and it follows the arcade Ghouls 'n Ghosts rather than starting Arthur's story over.
Double jumps and a magic weapon join the boxer-shorts panic of the earlier games. A princess to rescue and a graveyard opening are familiar, while the new armor spells change the projectile.
The Super Nintendo difficulty is the reputation: two passes through the gauntlet, and a chest that can curse as easily as it arms. Chou Makaimura's name on the Japanese box is the same Arthur, the same dash, the same cruel chests.
Same series is the tight name match. Same franchise is the wider family. Same platform is other games on the systems named above.

No wider family is grouped for this title beyond the series list.
