Overheated engines force a cooler line in Excitebike, Nintendo's side-view dirt-bike race where temperature matters as much as the jumps. Mud strips and uneven ramps cost speed, and a too-hot bike loses power before the finish.
A design mode lets a player place the ramps and the mud for the next heat. The side view shows the whole jump, including the landing that overheats a sloppy rider.
Nintendo's racer dates to 1984 and is a name later Excite sequels kept alive. The temperature gauge and the track builder are the original's own tools.
