History

Konami shifted to a side-on view in Goemon's Great Adventure, the 1998 follow-up to Mystical Ninja. Japan knows it as a Ganbare Goemon sequel, and the jokes, the meals, and Impact-sized nonsense remain.

Goemon and his friends now travel a scrolling stage rather than a free 3D town. A mech sequence can still interrupt, but the camera stays lateral for the villages and the castles.

That side-on camera is the break from the earlier 3D wander. Players who wanted another open castle will find a scroll, a punchline, and a different Goemon instead.
