Rotoscoped leaps and a one-hour dungeon define Prince of Persia (1989), Jordan Mechner's Apple II game of traps and sword fights. Mechner filmed his brother for the prince's run, and the spikes and closing gates expect that weight.
Broderbund published the timed escape, with the princess and the vizier's hourglass already running. A loose tile or a late sword parry costs seconds the dungeon does not refund.
NES, Super Nintendo, and Game Boy ports came after that computer original. The rotoscoped run and the traps are Mechner's Apple II design, and the console carts are later carriers of it.
