History

Andy Davidson turned artillery duels into cartoon worms for Team17's Worms, on landscapes that blow apart under the shot. A bazooka, a grenade, or a ninja rope changes who can even see the other team after the dirt is gone.

The design started on the Amiga. Team17's 1995 release made the squirming army and the destructible hill a familiar match rather than a grim hex war.

Nintendo machines got ports after that Amiga original. The ninja rope and the crumbling bridge are the toys those ports are carrying, not a new ruleset invented for a console.
