Master Higgins gains dinosaur companions in Hudson's Adventure Island II (1991) already. Each mount changes how he crosses a side-view island, whether that means a burst of speed or a way over a gap.
It is the first sequel, still an island trek rather than a new kind of game. The timer and the scrolling hazards remain, and the dinosaurs are the new company on that run.
A Game Boy edition carries the same Higgins-and-dinosaur idea. The NES cartridge is the one where those companions first joined the islands.
Same series is the tight name match. Same franchise is the wider family. Same platform is other games on the systems named above.
