History

Atari's Asteroids (1979), by Lyle Rains and Ed Logg, spins a ship among rocks on a vector screen. Later handheld versions are ports, and the cabinet is the original.

Hyperspace throws the ship to a random point, and a large rock splits into medium ones that still threaten the hull. Wraparound edges and a high-score table belong to that vector display.

Game Boy and Game Boy Advance editions replay the thrust and the split. The glowing cabinet is the machine those ports copy.
