History

Dave Theurer's arcade classic Missile Command (1980) asks you to shield cities from warheads with a limited stock of interceptors. Atari's trackball cabinet is the machine that name means.

Each battery has only so many shots, and a warhead that splits over a skyline spends them faster than a single trail. The silhouette cities and the trackball are the cabinet's signature.

Handheld editions reprint those cities and that dwindling ammo. The trackball original at Atari is the version the title indicates.
